Punches (Tsuki-Waza)
Punching techniques in Shotokan karate are known for their speed, precision, and explosive power. These strikes are practiced to develop proper body mechanics, including hip rotation, timing, and coordination between the upper and lower body. From the basic straight punch to advanced techniques such as reverse punches and combination strikes, each punch is designed to be both efficient and powerful. Understanding the Japanese terminology used for these techniques helps students follow instruction more easily and connects them to the traditional roots of Shotokan karate.
